Love of the Game UX Hackathon - Appy Brain - Winning Project
Designed with the focus of female-first, Appy Brain is a tool for concussion prevention, it was conceived in just two days during a collaborative online Hackathon. The interdisciplinary team, consisting of a Physio from Bristol Rugby Club, a Computer Scientist at Oxford University, and a Women’s Health Coach working at Chelsea Football Club, joined forces to create this app.

Appy Brain serves as a comprehensive resource for users involved in contact sports, offering insights into understanding, preventing, and alleviating concussion symptoms. Beyond informative content about concussions and preventive measures, the app incorporates a gamification element to promote sustained engagement.

Deliverables - Desk Research - User Persona - Visual Designs - 5 Minute Presentation
Persona - Developing a persona served as the foundation for our app. Beth, a fictional representation of our target user, became a tangible and relatable archetype guiding design and decision-making. In a team of unfamiliar members, Beth played a crucial role in directing our focus toward the end user, mitigating subjective comments and ensuring a user-centred approach throughout the design process.
Visuals - Given the tight deadline for creating conceptual visuals, a presentation, and a script, we immediately delved into the finalised design. Our goal was to develop something enjoyable and captivating for our target user, Beth, ensuring her engagement and motivation to use the app. Embracing a playful tone that juxtaposed the seriousness of the situation, we opted for a dark theme to mitigate eye strain, considering the accessibility needs of individuals with concussion or similar brain injuries.
